Η βρετανική βασιλική οικογένεια έχει επίσημο λογαριασμό στο Instagram από το 2013 με 4.6 εκατομμύρια followers αλλά η βασίλισσα Ελισάβετ δεν είχε κάνει κάποιο προσωπικό post μέχρι σήμερα.

Στις 7 Μαρτίου όμως κι ενώ βρισκόταν στο Μουσείο Επιστημών του Λονδίνου είχε καλή διάθεση κι ένα…iPad στα χέρια. Έτσι αποφάσισε να ανεβάσει στο Instagram μια φωτογραφία ενός γράμματος που είχε στείλει τον 19^ο αιώνα ο Charles Babbage στη βασίλισσα Βικτώρια και τον πρίγκιπα Albert, γράφοντας στη λεζάντα:

«Σήμερα στην επίσκεψή μου στο μουσείο επιστημών ανακαλυψα ένα γράμμα από τα βασιλικά αρχεία που είχε σταλεί το 1843 στον προ-προ παπού μου πρίγκιπα Albert. O Charles Babbage, που θεωρείται ο πρώτος καινοτόμους στους υπολογιστές, κι είχε χεδιάσει το Different Engine που ο πρίγκιπας Albert είχε την ευκαιρία να δει τον Ιούλιο του 1843».

Today, as I visit the Science Museum I was interested to discover a letter from the Royal Archives, written in 1843 to my great-great-grandfather Prince Albert.  Charles Babbage, credited as the world’s first computer pioneer, designed the “Difference Engine”, of which Prince Albert had the opportunity to see a prototype in July 1843.  In the letter, Babbage told Queen Victoria and Prince Albert about his invention the “Analytical Engine” upon which the first computer programmes were created by Ada Lovelace, a daughter of Lord Byron.  Today, I had the pleasure of learning about children’s computer coding initiatives and it seems fitting to me that I publish this Instagram post, at the Science Museum which has long championed technology, innovation and inspired the next generation of inventors.
